Both Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, a former minister of education, and Minister for Communications and Digitalization Ursula Owusu-Ekuful received awards at the 2022 Ghana Women of the Year Honours held on August 7 at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra.
The two were among 13 women who received recognition for their contributions to societal advancement across a range of fields and businesses.
Ursula, who is also the Member of Parliament for the Ablekuma West district, urged women to enter politics and strive for positions of leadership in society during her acceptance speech for the “Excellence in Governance” award.

She made a vow to continue assisting young women through the Girls In ICT program of her ministry, which aims to close the technological gender gap.
The Ghana Women of the Year Honours is a program that recognizes and honors women from Ghana and the diaspora who are having a significant positive impact on society.
The platform has been showcasing the unrealized potential of womanhood and the amazing examples of empowered women in diverse fields of endeavor for the last six years.
Honorees are chosen by a committee of high achievers, who make sure that the final list includes the most deserving women in many disciplines by using precise and impartial criteria.
The UNFPA, Veuve Cliquot, Standard Chartered Bank, Access Bank, CBG, Ghandour Cosmetics, Verna, SIGA, and Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast Accra provided sponsorship for the event.
