Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia claims that “the former government” led by John Dramani Mahama is partly responsible for some of Ghana’s present economic hardships.
The vice president cited the “quadruple challenges” the current government faces in an address at the Accra Business School, including excess capacity payments, the banking sector crisis, Covid-19, and the Russia-Ukraine war.
According to Dr. Bawumia, the excess capacity payments and the financial sector crisis were left over from the previous administration.
“Covid-19 expenditures alone were not reason for the large increase in Ghana’s debt stock by the end of 2021,” he said.
