The Ghana Revenue Authority intends to begin imposing an E-levy on sims in the month of July in order to raise revenue.
Beginning on July 1, 2022, all merchant sims will be subject to the e-levy.
Businesses that accept mobile money have received emails letting them know about this directive.
This is done to maximize the revenue from the “E-levy,” also known as the widely panned Electronic Transaction Tax.
According to Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko of the NPP, the E-levy has not generated the expected amount of money.
Gabby, who goes by the nickname “Prime Minister,” asserts that Ghanaians’ refusal to pay the E-levy has affected the outcomes.
Only 10% of the Ghana Revenue Authority’s projection has been met thus far.
