The motorcade of Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari’s team has been attacked by some unidentified gunmen in Katsina, Nigeria.
The president was traveling in a convoy this weekend to his hometown of Daura to celebrate the Muslim holiday Eid-ul-Adha when the assailants opened fire on them, according to reports.
Security personnel, protocol officials, and media officers made up the convoy, where two people were hurt in the incident.
The incident was confirmed in a statement from the presidency, which also described how the convoy was attacked while traveling to Daura.
The statement read; “The Presidency has described as sad and unwelcome, the shooting incident near Dutsinma, Katsina State, at the convoy of cars carrying the Advance Team of security guards, protocol and media officers ahead of the President, Muhammadu Buhari’s trip to Daura for Sallah. “The attackers opened fire on the convoy from ambush positions but were repelled by the military, police and DSS personnel accompanying the convoy. “Two persons in the convoy are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they suffered. All the other personnel, staff and vehicles made it safely to Daura.”
